White Design worked with Mach Acoustics to provide architectural services for the refurbishment and change of use of a Victorian industrial unit in Colston Yard Bristol to a new recording studio for Bunkersonix. The proposal was to provide a sound-proof studio for professional music production, to work alongside flexible office and studio space for small start-up companies.
The specialist sound-proofing requirements led to a bespoke acoustic solution which allowed for a recording room and mixing studio on the ground floor, together with acoustically separated accommodation on the first floor overlooking a double-height entrance area. The solution was sensitive to the existing industrial character of the building, retaining as much of the existing structure and facing brickwork as possible whilst refurbishing and insulating the building to a high standard.
